The 2023 release of Four Roses’ Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey celebrates 135 years of the brand. The expression is crafted using a combination of three of the signature mash bills; OBSV, OESV and OESK, which all impart varying characteristics to create a remarkable and richly layered whisky.
This limited edition release is an experience of subtle flavours and complex layers. Breathe in the aromas of allspice, vanilla and elegant oak alongside gentle hints of cinnamon and clove then delve into the richly layered body to discover honey, vanilla and rye spice balanced with flavours of ripe berries and pear before leading to a long mellow finish. With its subtle flavours, complex layers and limited bottling, we’re sure this blend will be flying off the shelves.
Trying to escape state-wide prohibition, Paul Jones Jr. upped sticks from Atlanta, Georgia, in 1884 and moved his business to Louisville, Kentucky. Legend has it that our hero was smitten on a Southern belle, who he proposed to on bended knee. She promised to give him her answer by wearing a rose in the corsage of her gown at an upcoming ball if it was “yes”. In fact, she wore four. In 1888, Paul Jones Jr. and his nephews trademarked the name Four Roses in her honour. Their romantic Bourbons, created in Lawrenceburg and matured in Cox’s Creek, have been a favourite among bartenders and those in-the-know ever since.
