98 points “Supremely elegant and poised.” – Decanter Magazine

In 2013 the Gaja family dropped the inclusion of the 5% Barbera grapes that had seen their legendary single vineyard Barbarescos declassified to Langhe Nebbiolo DOC for 15 years. That makes this pure vintage of Sorì Tildìn Barbaresco DOCG extremely exciting.

For Barbaresco 2013 was a classic vintage to rival the legendary 2010. This takes the already iconic Sorì Tildìn to new heights of aromatics harmony complexity and verve. Expect energy freshly plucked raspberries black cherry blackberry wild strawberry juniper mint dried mushrooms liquorice walnuts smashed on a polished antique desk and a long finish full of finesse. Full of grace this wine is a great one to have in the cellar for truffle season but it also goes wonderfully with duck goose and game birds porcini risotto and wild mushroom pasta.

Although this family estate was established in the 1850s it wasn’t until Angelo Gaja took over in 1970 that Gaja was pushed through into the vanguard of Italian wine. Although the Super Tuscans hog much of spotlight this man is often described as having single-handedly dragged Italian wine into the modern age. Not content with introducing revolutionary modern techniques and non-indigenous grape varieties to his Piedmont vineyards propelling them into the position of benchmark for the region he has also branched out to Tuscany with dramatic effect. A rebel a perfectionist and an incredible winemaker when it comes to the great man we think Robert Parker puts it best: “A genius for sure Angelo Gaja cannot be faulted for what he puts in the bottle.”
