92 points, “Bright, fresh, and sweet on the nose, with green apple, melon, sugared lemon slice, almond cream, vanilla, and a hay field in the sun. The proof gives this ample body and allows flavours of fizzy lemon, fresh ginger, orange scone, caramel-dipped apple, honeysuckle, and toasted coconut to spread out over a layer of savoury oak. It’s not quick to move on, lingering with a rounded finish of white pepper, fresh ginger, lemon oil, and oak.” – Whisky Advocate

As well as being an Editors’ Choice at Whisky Advocate, Glen Grant 15 Year Old Batch Strength has been awarded gold medals from the New York International Spirits Competition, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the Beverage Tasting Institute.

Matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks and bottled at a cockle-warming ABV of 50%, this fresh and fruity Speyside dram resonates with notes of apricot jam, apple crumble, lemon meringue pie, honeydew melon, orange marmalade, heather honey, peach yoghurt, sherbet, vanilla, caramel, oak and hot cross bun spices. Beguiling stuff from a legendary distillery.

John and James Grant applied for a distillery licence in 1839. Naming a distillery after yourself might seem a little egotistical, but these brothers were kind of a big deal, as proven by them paying to extend the Lossiemouth to Elgin railway so that it would reach their new enterprise in Rothes. John’s nephew took over the distillery in 1872. He was another James but was better known as “The Major”. An innovator and a socialite, he was well travelled, a keen hunter and was rumoured to have owned the first automobile in the Highlands. As well as building a second distillery across the road (which would later become known as Caperdonich) and pioneering the export of his Scotch, it was he who introduced the elegantly slender stills, which capture the finest vapours and create the fruitiness and ethereal lightness that has become Glen Grant’s signature. Today, Glen Grant is run by Dennis Malcolm, who was born on the distillery grounds and started his apprenticeship as a cooper there at 15 years of age in 1961. The brand is now owned by Campari, so as well as being one of the biggest selling Single Malts worldwide, it’s also extremely popular in Italy.
