Named after James Allardice the founder of GlenDronach distillery this 18 Year Old has been matured solely in Oloroso Sherry casks and is one of the finest examples of the rich sherried style of Scotch out there.

Demand is always enormous for this dram and we’ve secured just a handful of bottles each one packed with non-chill filtered natural-colour goodness. Its flavour profile is a stone-cold classic; all juicy raisins sticky dates creamy praline maple syrup Christmas cake warming ginger toasted walnuts rolling tobacco and leather. With the price of Sherry casks going up many of the distilleries one associates with producing ‘classic heavily sherried malts’ are reducing their use in favour of cheaper Bourbon barrels. GlenDronach however is making no such compromise. In fact it seems to be going the other way using more and higher quality Sherry casks. This is making it the go-to producer for those who love an old school sherried Scotch.

GlenDronach’s history has been a tumultuous one. Burned to the ground a decade after it was founded bounced from hand to hand like a hot potato mothballed and resurrected it keeps coming back like the Terminator. However since being taken under the wing of The Benriach Distillery Company and more recently Brown-Forman things have settled down in the valley of Forgue Aberdeenshire. Whisky maker Rachel Barrie has produced a procession of exceptional richly sherried single malts with each release displaying even more character than the last. Rachel Barrie’s father is particularly partial to a GlenDronach and she was raised just down the road so this is one of the first distilleries she ever tasted and one that she is therefore incredibly passionate about.
