The name means ‘crown’ in French a nod not only to the regal character of the Scotch but also to the fact that it was finished in rare Cognac casks. Matured initially for almost a quarter of a century in a combination of American and European oak Grande Couronne was then transferred to ex-Cognac casks for the final two years. What emerged from those precious barrels is undeniably a Scotch but with so much French je ne sais quoi.
