Glenkinchie 12 Year Old is classic Lowland and no serious whisky collection should be without this floral nutty and grassy style. A regular winner of Best Lowland Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards it’s a summery delight that’s not to be missed.

This dram arrives with the freshness of a spring breeze bringing roasted barley cut flowers granola almond biscotti lemon drizzle cake hazelnut baklava blossom stewed apples Sauternes freshly mown lawns crème caramel and a drizzle of honey.  We love to take this one outside on a warm evening and its wine-like character makes it a great one to sip over dinner.

Founded in 1825 on the outskirts of Edinburgh by John and George Rate Glenkinchie represents one of only a handful of distilleries in the Lowland region. It’s thought that it was originally known as the Milton Distillery before being renamed in the 1837 with ‘Kinchie’ being a corruption of De Quincy – the name of the original landowners. Glenkinchie is a distillery that would change the face of Scotch forever because it was one of the five Lowland distillers that would form Scottish Malt Distillers Ltd which would then merge with Distillers Company Ltd and eventually become Diageo as we know it today. The majority of Glenkinchie’s spirit was used for world famous blends such as Haig Dimple Dewar’s and Johnnie Walker but in the late 1980s it became one of Diageo’s Classic Malts rocketing it into the limelight. Renowned for its soft approachable style and grassy appley and nutty character Glenkinchie is one we always recommend for those who are new to the world of Scotch.
