The Glenmorangie 18 Years Old Infinita is a single malt Scotch whisky of distinction. Once this whisky has spent fifteen years maturing in American white oak casks a proportion is transferred into Spanish Oloroso casks to spend a further three years maturing. Then, when both elements have reached 18 years, they 'marry' them back together to create a whisky with a rich bouquet and full, rounded flavour.
The two distinct casks both add their own influence on the whisky, with great notes of yangy caramelized citrus fruit and loral honeysuckle, narcissus and jasmine on the nose. On the palate this opens with notes of nuts, Christmas spice, dates, figs and a touch of woody smoke. The finish then becomes all about the sherry cask with sweet, dried fruit and Oloroso all in abundance.
Glenmorangie is a distillery that needs little or no introduction seeing as how it’s now a household – if sometimes mispronounced – name. Established in 1843 – although alcohol production may have started as early as 1703 – the folk of Tain have passed their skills down from generation to generation. But amidst all that tradition they’ve never stopped innovating and only Prohibition and World War II have briefly stopped their remarkably tall whisky stills from running.
