GLENMORANGIE The Nectar d'Or Sauternes Cask Finish Single Malt Scotch Whisky

As the name suggests Glenmorangie’s Nectar d’Or is an elixir of pure gold. Our personal favourite in the Cask Finish range it has been matured for around a decade in Bourbon barrels before being finished in hand-selected wine casks from Sauternes. Although the source of the latter is never explicitly stated it’s worth noting that Glenmorangie comes from the LVMH stable which is also home to the mighty Château d’Yquem.
The Sauternes casks add instant sunshine as if you’ve overslept during the summer and opened the blinds to let the day in. What pours in is liquid sunbeams golden syrup heather honey nutty baklava apricot jam candied citrus peel sweet grapes honey nut cornflakes white pepper gentle wood spices and malty tea with ginger biscuits. The long and lingering finish is pure dessert wine making this a great whisky for pairing with pudding or for sipping on warmer evenings as the sun goes down.
Glenmorangie is a distillery that needs little or no introduction seeing as how it’s now a household – if sometimes mispronounced – name. Established in 1843 – although alcohol production may have started as early as 1703 – the folk of Tain have passed their skills down from generation to generation. But amidst all that tradition they’ve never stopped innovating and only Prohibition and World War II have briefly stopped their remarkably tall whisky stills from running.
