Winemaker Charlie Holland of the Gusbourne Estate has released a 2020 benchmark Brut Reserve and what a masterful creation this English sparkling wine is. Hand harvested Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir grape varieties are carefully selected, gently crushed and fermented, with most in stainless steel tanks and a small percentage in old oak barrels to produce greater complexity. The bottles are then aged on lees for a minimum of 25 months adding extra texture and sophistication.
This bright, gold blend delivers arresting notes of red fruit aromas with cherry and strawberry at the fore, combined with toasted almond, honeyed notes and a touch of cinnamon and spice. A flash of zesty citrus leaves the palate clean and fresh whilst soft tones of orchard fruit, white peach and raspberry lead into a long lingering, mineral finish. Beautifully balanced, we recommend sipping this in the sunshine or as a rewarding partner to seafood, white fish and cheese.
