Hamilton Russell Vineyards produce long, complex and beautifully intricate wines; somewhat like an English country garden maze that you wouldn’t mind getting lost in. The Chardonnay 2022 is no exception, displaying Mirabelle plum tart, baked pear, lemon curd, pear, grapefruit, lime leaf, beeswax candles, marmalade, honeysuckle, floral honey, sea salt and a combination of yeast, spice, warmth and nuttiness reminiscent of a Nordic bakery. Writing for Vinous, wine critic Neal Martin praised the “fine acidity” of this “very promising” Chardonnay. This is clearly not a wine to be missed.
Located right next to the sea behind the fishing village of Hermanus in Hemel-en-Aarde Valley – an aptly named heaven on Earth – Hamilton Russell is one of South Africa’s finest wine producers. That maritime influence makes this a perfect choice for seafood, buttery fish dishes and rich, garlicky, creamy sauces.
