Rum of Skepta is the next chapter in the ongoing global collaboration between an international musical icon and one of the most famous names in the world of spirits.
Skepta and Havana Club come together to create a unique limited-edition rum incorporating the brand’s Cuban birthplace and the musician’s Nigerian ancestry. The story began when Skepta first visited Havana in 2019. He was instantly struck by how Cuban customs are infused with West African Yoruba traditions that were familiar to him. Following the Haitian revolution many of the ousted sugar plantation owners and slave traders moved their operations to Brazil and Cuba bringing with them many enslaved Yoruba who became known locally as Lucumí. The cultural exchange of this part of the African diaspora has been inspiring musicians ever since right up to the likes of D’Angelo Ibeyi Beyoncé in the yellow dress and now grime’s very own Skepta.
