The name comes from the early German pioneers of the Barossa Valley many of whom had the first name Johann and most of whom referred to their vineyards as ‘weingarten’ giving rise to the Australian tradition of calling them gardens.
The Henschke family have been making wine in Australia’s Eden Valley since 1868. From the biodynamically farmed Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone vineyards Stephen and Prue Henschke create two of Australia’s most sought-after wines. The vines used to make their masterpiece Hill of Grace were planted in 1860 and the wine itself is one of the very best in the world.
