Herradura Añejo is a legend. This Tequila has picked up 53 medals – 18 of which were gold – in the last fifteen years. It’s matured for thirteen months beyond the industry standard making for an unrivalled smoothness. And it was the first commercially available spirit of its kind. So if you’re looking for an incredible Añejo Tequila then search no more.

We were always told that if you put the horseshoe upside down then the luck will fall out. It’s hard to tell whether that’s the case at Herradura because you don’t really need luck when your spirit is this good. Casa Herradura introduced their Añejo to the world in 1962 having aged it for 25 months in American white oak barrels. So remarkably smooth it can only be compared to the finest Speyside Scotch Cognac or Bourbon. Amber in colour it oozes toasted oak rich dried fruit vanilla caramel and cooked agave. Sip it neat at the end of a meal or alongside slow-cooked Mexican dishes or mix it into a Tequila twist on the Old Fashioned cocktail.

Casa Herradura was established at Hacienda San Jose del Refugio Amatitàn in 1870. It’s credited by many for creating the first Reposado and Extra Añejo and thus changing the world of Tequila forever. Today it remains one of the last Tequila-producing Haciendas on the planet. Using clay ovens to cook the Blue Weber Agave and a volcanic tahona wheel to crush them they ferment the agave juice in huge tanks using natural yeasts from the sixteen species of fruit trees on the estate and then distil it using an army of copper stills. These sustainable traditional methods combined with an immense effort to reduce their footprint on the planet saw Herradura awarded the Environmental Excellence Award from Mexico’s Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection – the only Tequila producer ever to receive this accolade.
