94 points “Spice-accented blackcurrant cherry cola liquorice pipe tobacco and cedary oak on the complex highly perfumed nose. Supple and expansive in the mouth offering concentrated yet vibrant dark berry cherry preserve vanilla and spicecake flavours that take on a smoky aspect with air. Shows excellent clarity and a deft blend of depth and liveliness and finishes long and floral with smooth even tannins lending gentle grip.” – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous Media

According to the respected Australian wine writer and critic Huon Hooke this wine “begs for a few years in the cellar.” And that’s why we’ve held back offering it until now as it will begin to enter its drinking window in 2022. Abercrombie Cabernet Sauvignon is Howard Park’s flagship wine and it will continue to improve for a decade maybe even two which makes it an exceptional gift for the fine wine lover in your life.

Abercombie is named after Walter Abercrombie who was the great grandfather and mentor to the owner of Howard Park Jeff Burch. It’s a multi-regional blend incorporating grapes from old-vine parcels in Margaret River and cool-climate vineyards in Great Southern. The former is obviously one of the most famous regions in the world for top-quality Cabernet Sauvignon but the latter is an up-and-coming region – aided by climate change and the cooling influence of Antarctica – that is producing some of Australia’s most exciting wines. The Margaret River element delivers the classic Cabernet notes of crème de cassis blackberry cocoa mocha tobacco and dried herbs while the Great Southern component delivers the aromatics and freshness that elevate it above its rivals.

The Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine bestowed an “Outstanding” ranking upon Abercrombie Cabernet Sauvignon placing it alongside the likes of d’Arenberg Dead Arm Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon Katnook Estate Odyssey Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet Sauvingon Penfolds RWT and St. Henri Peter Lehman Stonewall Shiraz Tyrell’s Vat 1 Semillon and other legends of the Aussie wine scene. For those not familiar with Langton’s it’s an auction house that created a classification that has become the honour roll of Australia’s top fine wines. The wines are judged on the demand in the market over at least a decade rather than simply relying on one critic’s opinion on a single vintage tasting. So when they say this is one of Australia’s true greats they really know what they’re talking about.

Howard Park is a member of Australia’s First Families of Wine a group of a dozen of the country’s finest most iconic and most historic wineries. Owned by the pioneering Burch family their wines – from the ever-popular Margaret River and the so-hot-right-now Great Southern – are adored by all Aussie wine connoisseurs.
