J. Bally 1966 is a rare vintage rhum Agricole from Martinique. We have just one bottle…

J. Bally is one of Martinique’s oldest brands making any bottle you happen to stumble across an intriguing proposition. Baron de Lajus founded his sugar plantation in Carbet a municipality in the north of the island in the 18th Century. This lucky location survived the 1902 volcanic eruption of Montagne Pelée but it rendered the plantation bankrupt. In 1917 it was bought by a French engineer called Jacques Bally who converted it from sugar production to a rum distillery. Jacques had studied in Cognac and applied the brandy-making techniques that he had learned to rum. He was one of the first to begin ageing this fresh sugarcane spirit in oak making him a true pioneer. Sadly this legendary rum distillery closed in the late-1980s bought by Rémy Cointreau and production has been moved to a different site. Therefore old bottles like this one are highly collectable and much sought-after.

Expect tangy citrus fiery ginger vanilla the woodiness of polished antique furniture and some interesting vegetal notes that are developing. Each sip is a little bit of rum’s illustrious history.

As we only have one bottle of J. Bally 1966 Vieux Rhum this is sold as pictured. Please note that due to its age there is some wear and tear to the packaging.
