Kilkerran 12 Year Old Single Malt is the flagship whisky from the resurrected Glengyle Distillery. This is a decadent whisky, aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. Expect initial notes of sweet confectionary, Turkish delights, pear drops and marzipan all present on the nose with subtle peat smoke coming through like marshmallows roasting on a campfire. On the palate you will get notes of lemon cheesecake, peat smoke, leather bound books and peppery notes that develop in to sweet sticky toffee pudding finishing with peat and pecan pie.
Kilkerran Single Malt is produced at the historic Campbeltown distillery, Glengyle, originally founded by the Mitchell family and owned by the J&A Mitchell group since its re-build and resumption of production in 2004.
Kilkerran pride themselves on completing all parts of the whisky production process on site, from the traditional floor maltings conducted at their sister distillery, Springbank, to the bottling of every edition at their bottling hall in Campbeltown. Sharing a production team and calendar with the neighbouring Springbank Distillery, Glengyle has a short production period of around three months per year, typically operational from October – December.
