Offering 24 days of intriguing flavours, each door of this advent calendar reveals chocolate-coated liquorice balls, making it ideal for sharing. The liquorice is handmade just outside Copenhagen using the finest liquorice root, cocoa butter and treacle, which are slow cooked for up to four hours to produce concentrated liquorice the likes of which you’ve never tasted before. This award-winning soft liquorice is then combined with white, dulce, milk and dark chocolate, as well as an array of innovative flavours. The only problem is that the runup to the Christmas is only 24 days.
With his combination of knitwear and perfect hair, Johan Bülow is handsomely Scandi. And this man loves his liquorice. So much so that after honing his craft, he opened his first shop in 2007 on the tiny Danish island of Bornholm. He had sold out within two hours of opening - they were so good that one customer even bought the sample bowl. The following year he upscaled, setting up the world’s smallest liquorice factory in Taastrup, just outside Copenhagen. Now his dark little morsels of gluten-free hygge are available worldwide, and Lakrids is without a shadow of a doubt the world’s finest liquorice.
