Lochlea have released their first ever, age statement limited-edition whisky created using five different casks; first fill bourbon, Oloroso sherry, Pedro Ximenez, and two which were used in the first ever filling in August 2018 and all were hand selected by production director John Campbell and his team. The whisky is non-chill filtered and bottled at its natural colour.
This limited release expression is a celebration to mark Lochlea’s 5-year anniversary, and to mark the milestone they’ve also chosen to release the whisky on 25th January, Burns Night, as a nod to Robert Burns, who once worked the land.
This unique bottling has a delicious, rich flavour and texture with highlights of baked pineapple, brown sugar, hazelnuts and sourdough bread on the nose which unfurl into zingy lemon zest, orange peel and baked pear crumble. Notes of caramel with hints of black pepper, rose petals and leather beguile and delight the tastebuds leaving the drinker determined to go back for more. The spirit of Lochlea is clear to see in this distinguished expression and we have no doubt it will be one you go back to again and again.
Lochlea was a livestock farm when it was acquired in 2006. The piggery became the distillery, the cattle sheds were turned into bonded warehouses and the pasture was converted to barley fields. It’s a site rich in history as the celebrated Scottish poet Robert Burns lived at Lochlea Farm between 1777 and 1784, no doubt toiling over the same soil that this fiercely independent family-owned distillery now does. As Rabbie famously wrote “Freedom an’ whisky gang thegither.” So raise a dram to a new free spirit from Scotland.
