As a working farm, Lochlea’s seasonal small batch releases reflect the farming calendar. Lochlea’s Harvest Edition is the third and final expression which celebrates the culmination of the harvest. This final offering embodies the vibrancy and warmth of the season but with greater complexity and richness.
Double matured in refill Bourbon barrels and Port hogsheads, alongside an Oloroso Sherry butt, this expression combines a bright nose of plump red grapes, fresh strawberry jam and rich clotted cream with a sweet mouthfeel of baked apple pie and white chocolate which is all smoothly balanced alongside savoury notes of cracked black pepper. This lively, fruit forward release, bottled at 46%, is a celebration of harvest and a dram we think would be very well appreciated with friends.
Lochlea was a livestock farm when it was acquired in 2006. The piggery became the distillery, the cattle sheds were turned into bonded warehouses and the pasture was converted to barley fields. It’s a site rich in history as the celebrated Scottish poet Robert Burns lived at Lochlea Farm between 1777 and 1784, no doubt toiling over the same soil that this fiercely independent family-owned distillery now does. As Rabbie famously wrote “Freedom an’ whisky gang thegither.” So raise a dram to a new free spirit from Scotland.
