Massaya’s story is remarkable one. Picking grapes while missiles fly overhead. Vines left to fend for themselves as the family that tended them were forced to flee for their lives. Then that land being reclaimed by the next generation. All that passion dedication will to survive and love of Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley can be tasted in every drop of Le Colombier.
Using a unique combination of Cinsault Grenache Syrah and Tempranillo Massaya have crafted a really thirst-quenching red wine with a moreish peppery finish. It’s just the kind of thing you need when the rich plates of tagine mixed grills shawarma tabbouleh baba ganoush fluffy falafels and spicy batata harra; and the handfuls of za’atar and Lebanese seven spice start flying.
Massaya is a collaboration between two Lebanese brothers Ramzi and Sami Ghosn and two pioneering French winemaking families – the Bruniers of Vieux Télégraphe and the Hébrards formerly of Cheval Blanc. These wines from the Bekaa Valley combine aspects of the Rhône and Bordeaux with a spicy Levant twist.
