With the inaugural release of The California Collection they’ve gone a step further by recreating their classic Australian “House Style” using a combination of grapes from California and their homeland. This ground-breaking red is a new chapter in the Penfolds saga and very much a “Wine of the World”.
Penfolds Bin 98 Quantum Cabernet Sauvignon is Grange for a new generation of global citizens. Crafted using prized Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley (Oakville and Diamond Mountain District AVAs) and pedigreed Shiraz (a component considered for inclusion in Grange) from South Australia it’s then married together in tanks and barrels shipped from one hemisphere to the other. The result pulses with aromas of blackberry and apple crumble bouncy blueberry fruit violets and something that reminds us of Sunday’s roast beef. There’s more of the same on the dark and brooding palate with the addition of graphite hazelnut praline cream iodine plums prunes black pepper and leather. A truly phenomenal accomplishment and a wine like no other. Due to the high demand and limited availability Penfolds Bin 98 Quantum Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 will be limited to one per customer.
