This is the quintessential Australian blend made to a Grange quality level in a dazzling vintage.
The team at Penfolds has created a Superblend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Shiraz sourced from unique parcels normally destined for their flagship wines. They then created two different interpretations: Superblend 802.A and Superblend 802.B. The latter was matured in French oak while this one was aged in American oak hogsheads for 22 months. As a result Superblend 802.A is unashamedly bold and brash. Described by Decanter as “a supersized wine of imposing proportions” Penfolds Superblend 802.A 2018 presents intense notes of black cherry liqueur crème de cassis raspberry blackberry jam fig dark chocolate freshly laid tarmac cola chinotto cigar box mocha fruitcake crème brûlée vanilla mulling spices liquorice toasted coconut caramelised nuts and a whiff of meat smoking on the barbeque. A stunning red for those who like the big oaky and with the volume turned up to 11.
