We’re calling this new expression from Plantation ‘Finding Rumo’ on account of the clownfish on its brightly coloured label. Part of the ‘Under the Sea’ range a series that explores distilleries with a coastal influence this is sure to disappear quicker than Nemo on his first day of school. Only 25 barrels were made of this one-time-only rum and very few bottles have made their way to the UK making it a limited edition not to be missed…
Distilled on a pot still in 2009 by Rum Co. of Fiji Distillery it was aged in the tropical heat of the Pacific island for ten years. From there it was shipped to Javrezac in the Cognac region of France not far from the home of Cognac masters Maison Ferrand at Château de Bonbonnet. There it spent another three years in Ferrand’s casks gaining further complexity in the cooler European climate – this is Plantation’s signature flex. Bottled as a 13 Year Old at 49.5% this vintage rum is as bright and dazzling as the fish and coral on the label.
Fiji Islands 13 Year Old Double Aged Rum 2009 opens with an ocean of fruit and pastry notes (think banana almond croissant and French toast) before becoming more floral and herbal. On the palate you’ll discover bitter orange and fresh tropical fruit then with a flick of the tail spices and mint on the finish. This is yet another exceptional rum from Plantation that would be an elegant addition to any collection.
In the late 1980s Alexandre Gabriel of the Cognac house Maison Ferrand set off on an adventure; he was scouring the world in search of the finest rums. His passion gave birth to Plantation an artisanal range of rums from the great terroirs of the tropics.
