Slowly fermented and then distilled on a pot still in 2007 at Clarendon Distillery Jamaica it was filled into Bourbon casks and aged in the hot tropical paradise that inspired that glorious manatee-covered box design for thirteen years. From there it was shipped to Château de Bonbonnet in France – the home of Cognac masters Maison Ferrand – where it spent two years in their casks gaining further complexity in the cooler European climate. Bottled as a 15 Year Old at 48.4% this vintage rum is super fruity and wonderfully funky – barbequed pineapple ripe banana apricot yoghurt gingerbread tar sea spray orange peel allspice vanilla custard guava baked apple coconut milk star anise oak rye bread slathered in Irish Black Butter and chewy liquorice. A great introduction to the island’s style Plantation’s Jamaica Clarendon MSP Double Aged Rum 2007 is one our rums of the summer.
In the late 1980s Alexandre Gabriel of the Cognac house Maison Ferrand set off on an adventure; he was scouring the world in search of the finest rums. His passion gave birth to Plantation an artisanal range of rums from the great terroirs of the tropics. Combining French savoir-faire with Caribbean and Pacific Island joie de vivre Plantation’s outturn is a treasure trove for rum lovers and spirits enthusiasts.
