To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Pommery House and their first Brut Champagne, Pommery have released their Cuvée 150 Blanc de Blancs. The limited-edition release has been created using the finest Chardonnay grapes from Madame Pommery’s favourite plots, which consists of ten villages in four prestigious terroirs; Côte des Blancs: Chouilly, Cramant, Avize, Oger - Grande Vallée de la Marne: Dizy - Montagne de Reims: Trépail, Villers-Marmery, Verzy, Verzenay - Les Clos Pompadour: Reims. Pommery cellar master Clément Pierlot explains that “in this way, each village, with its unique terroir, harmoniously sculpts the complex personality of this cuvée with its subtle, delicate nuances,”. The Champagne is aged on lees for six years in the historic cellars of Madame Pommery where the cool, constant temperature ensures the very best development and evolution of this unique release.
Aromas abound in each pale, golden hued sip with crisp apple, ripe pear, and citrus zest alongside hints of flora and subtle minerality dancing gracefully on the nose inviting you to indulge in its radiant allure. A symphony of flavours delight the tongue with orchard fruits intermingling with kaffir lime, candied ginger and rich notes of brioche. The harmony between fruit, flora, honeyed mineral notes and acidity results in a complex structure and well-balanced wine. The long and satisfying finish leaves a lingering impression of sophistication and refinement, well known and expected from this supreme Champagne House. The stunning white bottle, the only one in the brand’s history, pays tribute to the purity of the first Brut ever created and will make a coveted addition for collectors and wine enthusiasts.
Originally established as a wool trading company called Pommery & Greno in 1858, this business took a dramatic change of direction when its founder Alexandre Louis Pommery died, and his widow Louise took over. Now, Pommery is one of the biggest names in Champagne, and it deserves a special place in the region’s history as Madame Pommery created the first Brut Champagne in 1874. This ground-breaking wine changed the prevailing preference for sweeter Champagne and would go on to become the world’s most popular style. The avant-garde Champagne house, with its turrets, towers, crenelations, red bricks and blue façade, is every bit as bright and striking as the wines produced within its walls. Madame Pommery described her refined wines with two words: joy and lightness. So, when you want to spread a little joie de vivre, reach for a bottle of Pommery Champagne.
