93 points “Qué delicioso!” – Whisky Advocate

Redbreast is one the most highly decorated Irish whiskies of all time. Lustau has become the standard bearer for Spanish Sherry. Both of these powerhouses were established around the turn of the twentieth century and this exquisite whiskey was born out of their combined over 200 years of experience.

Distilled at Midleton the Redbreast Lustau Edition has been matured in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks for 9-12 years. It was then finished for a further year in Sherry butts that have been seasoned with Lustau’s finest Oloroso. The result has the sweet dried fruit influence from the Sherry but is wonderfully dry refined and nutty. Unctuous Medjool dates moist figs maraschino cherries baked red apples Californian raisins and golden sultanas are laced with fresh mint leaves toasted walnuts sesame oil Bassett’s Liquorice Allsorts double cream and caramelised marzipan-like the kind that sometimes oozes out of a stollen as you bake it. From the smallest sip it’s clear why Whisky Advocate voted this their Irish Whiskey of the Year in 2017.

Redbreast is a living legend of the Irish whiskey scene. Made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley that’s triple-distilled in a traditional copper pot still it first appeared in 1912 when Gilbeys began selling a whiskey distilled by Jameson’s that they had matured for 12 years. Although production ceased in 1985 it was soon re-launched due to popular demand and is now better than ever.
