Araceli is maybe the coolest wine in the Renegade Urban Winery range. Unique doesn’t quite cover it.

The Grauburgunder grapes (also known as Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris) came from Pfalz in Germany. Although usually used to make white wine Renegade have fermented them on their pinky golden skins for two weeks imparting what the Italians call a ‘ramato’ meaning copper colour. The result is a wild hazy and natural rosé buzzing with red apple skins and pips wild strawberry sorbet cherry white pepper clove nutmeg and a pinch of sea salt. Its bittersweet style is screaming out for food especially when you can’t quite decide between a crisp white or a tannic red.

Renegade Urban Winery’s labels include the diverse faces of the British public. This vegan-friendly rosé features Araceli or Ara to her friend. Originally from Madrid Ara now lives in Shoreditch and works as a Data Scientist in the world of media. Her eyes are as striking as the wine she has given her name to.

After visiting vineyards and urban wineries around the globe Warwick Smith was inspired to launch the capital’s second winery Renegade. His top-quality fruit is sourced from small growers around Europe and is transported to London in refrigerated trucks before being lovingly pressed by hand and foot beneath the train tracks in Bethnal Green London. As Renegade put it urban wineries are “breaking the rules one bottle at a time” making them one of the most exciting things to happen to the industry in a very long time. For that reason any true wine lover or appreciator of artisanal products needs to be all over the urban winery scene.
