Established as recently as 1998 in Stellenbosch Reyneke Estate is today one of South Africa’s very few certified biodynamic wine farms and winemaker and founder Johan Reyneke Jr has become something of a leading light on the subject in the country. Herbicide pesticide and fungicide free and with no artificial additives in the cellar this non-intervention approach leaves wines true to their origin and character.
Reyneke Reserve White 2013 is a single vineyard wine made exclusively from the Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes were whole bunch pressed before the natural fermentation was started by wild yeasts and took place in French oak barriques. The wine spent 13 months ageing in oak in contact with its lees before being racked and bottled. The Reyneke Reserve White 2013 was awarded five stars in Platter’s guide 2015.
The nose shows gunpowder flint crushed stone leading to citrus and pink grapefruit notes. The palate is multi-layered with honeyed nuts flint and citrus peel with a structure and balanced acidity. Minerality lingers on the palate with subtle notes of almond and spice and an achingly long finish
