Introducing Ridgeview Limited Edition Oak Reserve NV a one-off production of 2 600 bottles of which Harvey Nichols has secured just a handful of cases. Crafted using 100% Chardonnay from the 2015 2016 and 2017 vintages grown on Ridgeview’s home vineyard in Ditchling which was planted back in 1995. Fermented in a combination of toasted new French oak barrels and seasoned casks from Burgundy and the Loire Valley this Blanc de Blancs spent less than a year on its lees to ensure the oak influence wouldn’t be dominated by the autolytic character.
Ridgeview’s classic house style is fresh and vibrant with notes of lemon sorbet orchard blossom and tropical fruit which is still the case present here but there’s also a gorgeously creamy texture and a luxurious layer of salted butter well-fired pastry butterscotch toasted nuts smoke spicy oak and something that reminds us of Joe & Seph’s Classic Caramel Popcorn. It sets a whole new standard for oaky English Sparkling Wine.
The striking bottle with its natural cherry wood label has already picked up a Drinks Business Design Award 2020. The grain is different on each label making the bottle as unique as the wine within. And we love the fact it has no foil because this is great for the planet as capsules (being a mixture of metal and plastic) normally end up in landfill.
