Quite an atypical wine the 2013 Roda Reserva is almost entirely Tempranillo with just a splash of Graciano. Fabulously fresh it has a long life ahead of it and comes in very smart gift box.
Everything Bodegas Roda produce is awesome their Riojas appeal to a younger generation who are less interested in drinking something with the fusty gravitas of a stately home library and are seeking more freshness. Roda Reserva is a perfect example; it’s buzzing with energy and almost ethereal in its composition. Expect fresh cherry cherry liqueur gentle Christmas spices mocha and wet stones. It makes a delicious partner to roast lamb roasted root vegetables spiced with smoked paprika or grilled mushrooms.
Founded in the late-80s Roda is a new breed of Rioja producer one that has carried out meticulous scientific research to find the finest plots of old vines. What is lovely to see from this forward-thinking producer is their increased use of Grenache and Graciano to add freshness to their wines.
