This spectacular Single Quinta Vintage Port hails from Sandeman’s fabulous Quinta do Seixo estate in the heart of Cima Corgo. The wine comprises 35% Touriga Nacional 30% Touriga Franca and 10% Sousão grapes and the final 25% is a field blend from vines that are over 100 years old. This latter component adds immense complexity and stunning intensity to wine. Matured in oak barrels for two years in the winery’s historic cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia the vegan-friendly Sandeman Quinta do Seixo Vintage Port 2019 is a delectable melange of red fruit black fruit spicy pepper warming ginger and bittersweet dark chocolate. It’s a masterclass in refined opulence that will pair beautifully with chocolate-based desserts festive fare and cheese.
In 1790 George Sandeman took a loan of £300 from his father to set up a Port and Sherry business in London. From those modest beginnings George created one of the world’s iconic wine brands. From Porto the company quickly diversified and bought Sandeman Bodegas in Jerez for Sherry production. A true innovator George Sandeman was the first one to brand all his port pipes with GSC (George Sandeman & Co.) thus assuring provenance and quality. The brand was registered as a trademark in 1877 making it one of the oldest still in use. Following on the tradition of the house as innovators the now iconic figure of the “Don” was featured on Sandeman’s bottles as early as 1935.
