This limited-edition expression of the special edition bottling of Manchester Haçienda Gin has been created to celebrate 5 years of collaboration between Manchester Gin and Peter Hook. The striking black sprayed bottle pays homage to the legendary Haçienda hazard stripes, an iconic symbol of Manchester’s vibrant music scene, but it is the hidden messaging which really makes this bottle unique – a “Use Hearing Protection” visual adorns the front label with a secret hand-written message, from Peter Hook himself, featured on the reverse label and both are only visible under ultraviolet light. So, mix yourself a gin and tonic, get the UV light out and see what Peter himself has to say.

This special-edition citrus remix of the signature Manchester Gin was created in collaboration with Peter Hook – the bass player and co-founder of Joy Division and New Order – and Manchester’s iconic but now sadly closed nightclub The Haçienda. Together they’ve created a Manchester Gin that perfectly captures the spirit of Madchester and all those good times.

FAC 51 The Haçienda Gin has been given a big dose of lemon and lime peel – a nod to the vibrant acid house scene that the club was so famously entwined with. It also contains locally hand foraged dandelion and burdock which gives it a deep flavour and real Manchester roots in both senses of the word. The label has been rendered in the classic yellow and black (the colours striped around the columns that surrounded the dancefloor of the converted warehouse) and the clear window gives a distorted look that recalls the buzzing and ear-ringing vibes of the all-night raves held there.

The name pays reference to the numbering system employed by Factory Records – the label that gave us the likes of Joy Division New Order and Happy Mondays and largely financed The Haçienda. FAC 51 was the official designation given to the nightclub on the record label’s catalogue – interestingly the cedilla was used in the club’s name because “çi” looks like “51”.

Manchester Gin is a small batch premium gin launched in 2016. Their operation has already received Gold Medals from International Wine & Spirit Competition and The Spirits Business Gin Masters. Traditionally distilled using ‘Wendy’ – the bespoke-made copper still of Manchester Gin – this handcrafted expression beautifully straddles the line between classic and contemporary and celebrates the past present and future of Manchester. It can be used in a range of gin-based cocktails or simply with premium tonic water, but you must turn the music up loud. And if it’s too loud as the famous Hacienda poster read: “Use Hearing Protection”.
