We’ve given them hope.” Tragically he and the Mayor at the time were assassinated by a disgruntled colleague on 27 November 1978. During his short eleven-month tenure Harvey Milk passed a bill banning discrimination in public accommodations housing and employment on the bases of sexual orientation. His achievements as an advocate for positive change human rights LGBTQ+ equality and a more inclusive world have made him an icon. As Harvey Milk famously said: “Hope will never be silent.”
