Pequeno Dilema is a stunning new expression sourced from two of the Symington family’s most prized high-altitude vineyards in the Douro Valley. Although this region is famed for its Ports and big reds, this wine is irrefutable proof that it can also produce the finest of whites too.

The grapes – a blend of 60% Viosinho (a low-yielding variety that has the most wonderful fragrance), 25% Gouveio (crisp, lively and also known as Godello), 10% Arinto (a vibrant and appley favourite of ours) and 5% Alvarinho (the Portuguese name for Albariño) – come from two vineyards in the Douro sub-region of Cima Corgo, Chões in Vale do Pinhão and Tapadinha in Vale do Rio Torto. The wine is aged on the lees in a variety of new and used barrels. In Portuguese, an oak cask is called a barrica. This maturation adds body, a creamy and buttery texture and notes of vanilla and nutmeg to the honeysuckle, lemon, grapefruit, peach, green apple and white pepper already present. Consider pairing this vegan-friendly and supremely elegant white with risottos, buttery dishes, creamy sauces, nut-based cheeses, summer pastries or rich fish recipes.

You may be wondering why we have put some of the words in this description in bold type. Well, that’s because all of them are present in the wordsearch label. Can you find them all?

The Symington family have been making wines in Portugal since the 19th Century. They’re the world’s leading producer of premium Port and the biggest vineyard owner in the Douro Valley – a UNESCO World Heritage Site of jaw-dropping beauty. As the producers of Graham’s, Dow’s, Cockburn’s, Warre’s and Quinta do Vesuvio, they’re obviously most famous for their Ports, but they are now starting to branch out into wider Portugal and a dizzying array of different styles. Every new creation makes us love them more.
