This collaboration between the Teeling Whiskey Company and Galway Bay Brewery brings together two of our favourite things fine Irish whisky and craft beer. For years these two have been producing ‘200 Fathoms’ a cult imperial stout aged in whiskey barrels. Now they’ve turned the tables using those same stout-seasoned barrels to finish a whiskey.
This has created a rich dark and malty whiskey. The classic Teeling flavours of Seville orange marmalade honey digestive biscuits crunchy apple poached pear lemon drizzle cake hay and almond are all there but layered on top are notes of Black Forest gateau (dark chocolate cherry cream) treacle truffle and spice. So complex this is a whiskey that punches well above its price tag.
Whiskey has been in blood of the Teeling family ever since Walter Teeling set up a small distillery on Dublin’s Marrowbone Lane in 1782. Jack and Stephen Teeling are the latest generation to follow in his footsteps establishing a distillery just down the road in 2015. When it opened their Teeling Whiskey Distillery was the first new one in Dublin for over 125 years. Progressive modern and conscious of sustainability Teeling is now responsible for some of the most innovative and exciting whiskey ever to come out of the Emerald Isle.
