Created by taking The Lakes Distillery’s phenomenal The One – a blend of their very own Single Malt and carefully selected grain and malt whiskies from the Scottish Highlands Speyside and Islay – and finishing it in Orange Wine casks each one lovingly handpicked by their incredibly talented whisky maker Dhavall Gandhi. But don’t think of the uber-trendy white wines that are fermented on their skins for an extended period that have flooded the market recently. These are super-rare Vino de Naranja casks which is a speciality of Andalusia (or in Spanish Andalucía) created by macerating white wine with orange peel and ageing it for long periods in barrels. This Orange Wine is usually only made for personal consumption in a place called Huelva so getting hold of barrels is extremely difficult. These barrels layer flavours of thick-cut marmalade on buttery toast pomander lychee salted caramel oak tobacco and the gentle smoke from a fireplace over the top of the gentle peat toasted nuts dried apricots sultanas and spice of the original whisky. The One Orange Wine Cask Finish is quite unique sipped neat or it makes a brilliant highball poured over ice topped with soda and garnished with a wedge of orange (charred if you’re feeling fancy). However only 2 994 limited-edition bottles were filled so if you want to secure one you’ll need to be quick.
