Tinto Pesquera Crianza is a window into one of Ribera del Duero’s true greats.

Tinto Pesquera is a 16th Century stone winery where Familia Fernández Rivera first began making wine in 1975 sparking a winemaking revolution that put Ribera del Duero on the map for all connoisseurs. Alejandro Fernández who sadly died in 2021 made his money in sugar beet harvesting machines. He sold his patent and bought a vineyard in Pesquera de Duero in 1972. At that time the only local winery of note was Vega Sicilia and the region didn’t even have a Denominación de Origen classification yet. When Robert Parker compared Tinto Pesquera to Château Pétrus the world took notice and it has been an icon of Ribera del Duero ever since.

Pure Tempranillo matured in American oak for 14 months and in the bottle of six more before release Tinto Pesquera Crianza is an aromatic red layered with raspberry cherry blackberry cedar coconut vanilla liquorice balsamic dark chocolate and toasted sourdough. Deeply comforting and beautifully constructed this is one of our go-to wines for practically anything charred on a barbeque but also Sunday roasts sausage stews pies Xi’an noodles cumin lamb and dishes spiced with chipotle chilli.
