95 points “Very deep bright bold purple/red colour with a slightly subdued but spicy aroma which also carries some of the graphite of the Barossa floor. The wine is full-bodied and ample big and bold with abundant soft tannins and lovely balance. A big but elegant wine whose texture is finely grained not coarse. Such generosity allied to such elegance.” – Huon Hooke The Real Review

93 points “Torbreck's 2018 The Struie is a 75-25 blend of Barossa Valley and Eden Valley fruit. All Shiraz aged 20 months in mainly used French oak (there's 15% new oak) it boasts an opulent nearly creamy mouthfeel ample weight and richness and a lingering supple finish. Those structural elements all guide notes of camphor grilled beef plummy fruit vanilla and cola easily across the full-bodied palate making this a wine that's deceptively easy to drink despite its concentration and complexity. It should drink well for 10-15 years.” – Wine Advocate

The Struie is a pure old-vine Shiraz crafted from plots in Barossa Valley and Eden Valley. The latter provides a taut elegance to the wine making it capable of long ageing. 2018 was a low-yielding but high-quality vintage creating a wine with notes of blackberry jam plum crumble violet crème de cassis blueberry white pepper exotic spices dried herbs biltong and hoisin sauce. Definitely the elegant side of Torbreck The Struie 2018 is an exciting prospect especially in the handy half-bottle format.

The Australian legend that is Torbreck was established by David Powell in 1994. This incredible wine was made by Powell before he was unceremoniously ousted from the company by the tech billionaire Pete Kight. Tobreck takes its name from a forest near Inverness in Scotland and The Struie continues the Scottish reference taking its name from a viewing point over the Dornoch Firth.
