Finca San Martín 2020 is a refined and restrained example of Rioja, made up of 100% Tempranillo grapes selected from the Vallecilla, Camino de Laguardia, San Martinn I and San Martinn II vineyards in the foothills of Sierra de Cantabria. The balanced and aromatic expression reflects the dedication and expertise of La Rioja Alta as much as the elegant style of the grape.
What unfurls from the 16-month new American oak and French oak barrelled aged wine is a vibrant fruit aroma with hints of wild strawberries, raspberries and cranberries. Sitting alongside are spiced nuances of vanilla, caramel, cedar and liquorice which mirror the palate and leave a long, balanced fruity expression with balsamic notes reinforcing the typical characteristics of this Rioja Alavesa wine.
This is a wine of great aromatic intensity so is best served as a companion to charcuterie, meat dishes and strong cheese. The wine is also ideal for extended ageing where it will only advance in complexity and elegance.
