Turley Wine Cellars was founded in 1993 by Larry Turley, the former winemaker at Frog’s Leap Winery and an outspoken devotee to old vines of Zinfandel. Specialising in single-vineyard wines, Turley has acquired an almost cult-like status with sommeliers, consumers and critics all over the world. In the words of Wine Advocate: “Turley Wine Cellars has long been one of the more enviable wine operations in California.”
Planted in 1885, Ueberroth is one of Turley’s oldest Zinfandel vineyards. As you walk through these historic, gnarled, ungrafted and certified-organic vines in Paso Robles, you can sometimes smell the Pacific Ocean breeze. The plot sits on top of a little hillock, providing 270 degrees of exposure to the sun. The result is unrivalled complexity and immense concentration, as those glowing reviews above tell you.
