The second limited-edition virgin oak finish whisky from White Peak Distillery is the well balanced and lightly peated Wire Works Virgin Oak Finish 2023. Crafted using local brewer’s yeast with a six-day fermentation to add characterful deep fruit notes, the spirit is then matured in first-fill bourbon casks and finished in virgin American oak barrels, toasted and charred to reveal nutty, spicy aromatics.
This gold medal award-winning whisky at the World Whiskies Awards 2024, combines a bold oak undertone with notes of banoffee pie, fruit salad sweets, pistachio and cranberries leading into treacle tart, toasted nuts and sweet spice all harmoniously finishing with a light lingering smoke. Virgin Oak is 100% natural colour and non-chill filtered. This unique and elegant Derbyshire crafted whisky is a fine example of White Peak Distillery’s core house spirit, and we look forward to seeing what other exciting expressions this new distillery has to offer.
Housed in the old Johnson and Nephew Wire Works Building, White Peak Distillery produces Wire Works Whisky, Shining Cliff Gin and White Peak Rum. The company proudly focuses on the unique Derbyshire provenance and heritage, whilst developing their own traditions. Founded in 2016 by Max and Claire Vaughan, their first whisky release was in 2022, and with a flurry of medals already received, this distillery will be an exciting one to watch.
